About

Committed to Excellence

Franglais RVA.NYC is a language tutoring service that offers private and group classes in person and online for French, English, and Yoga.  All lessons are based on interactionist theories of language acquisition. You will be speaking the language from day 1. Yoga can be taught in English or in French. It is a great complement to the language learning experience as it encourages mind-body connection and learning through doing.

Corinne teaching remotely / online

Born in Miami, Florida, Corinne grew up in a tri-lingual household that prioritized language learning. In 2006 she studied French, English, and Spanish while completing the International Baccalaureate Program. Earning a full scholarship to the University of Florida, Corinne graduated a semester early and started teaching French in public schools in 2010.
In 2013 she was recognized for her contribution to language education and was awarded the Assistantship and Fellowship in the TESOL masters program at The University of Central Florida. She continued to teach both online and in person.

After living in France to teach and splitting her time between France and the US for many years, she settled in New York City in 2018. It was the culture and people that drew her to the city. Every day she enjoys learning more about her students through her work. Corinne has taught children as young as 2 years old through adulthood and has extensive experience online and in the brick-and-mortar classroom. Her methods are based in research on the flipped classroom and distance learning models through an immersive environment.

Corinne has been a yoga practitioner since 2009. She completed her first teacher training in 2015 and a secondary 200hr and 300hr training in 2021. She has taught Vinyasa, Power, Yoga Nidra, Yin, and Ashtanga to people of all ages (including children’s classes) and levels privately, corporately, and in yoga studios.

Ashton has taught French professionally since 2018, working with students between the ages of 2 and 92! She is originally from a small town in South Carolina, and studied classical vocal performance and French at Furman University in Greenville, SC. Her senior recital featured French art song and opera and in her senior year she lived with a host family in Versailles, France.

Upon graduation she lived in a small town in the southwest of France, Parentis-en-Born, teaching English at two local high schools and living with a host family. Her time in France allowed for lots of travel, and she has been to many major cities and towns in France, considering Strasbourg, Bordeaux, and Saint Malo as her favorites. She then pursued a master's degree in French at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she taught undergraduate students, worked at a French immersion preschool in the summer, and studied French literature. Ashton then moved from the Rocky Mountains to the Blue Ridge and taught undergraduates at the University of Virginia while studying medieval French literature.

In Charlottesville she also taught at the Center at Belvedere, a healthy aging facility, and discovered her love for working with older students. Her teaching methods primarily follow the flipped, task-based model of communicative language teaching, but she also adapts based on the needs of individual students. She also loves to include music and poetry in her teaching, and continues to sing in semi-professional choirs when she can. Now located in Richmond, Ashton is pursuing her M.Ed in Counselor Education at VCU in order to become a counselor and continue helping her students grow. She is eager to explore this new city and meet those who call it home, and is looking forward to working with you on your French learning journey!
